A sculpted earth oven takes three to four days to make. They are made from natural materials -clay, straw and sand mixed together with water which is often referred to as Cob. This environmentally friendly material was traditionally used for building walls for houses in places like Devon. This project engages pupils in making activities whilst the artist is in residence at the school and can include educational workshops. Once the Clay earth oven has dried it can be cooked in and makes a welcomed addition to any outdoor learning environment. The sculpted ovens are ephemeral and their life span varies according to conditions.
